“Boat races” are one type of government-controlled professional competitive sport for which gambling is allowed in Japan. Since it’s government-managed, you can safely and assuredly enjoy watching and betting on the boat races. In Hyogo Prefecture, you can find this event at “BOAT RACE Amagasaki”!

During the BOAT RACE event, 6 boats vie for 1st place, racing to first complete 3 laps around a 600-meter circuit on the water. The boats reach speeds up to 80km/hour as their engines rev and they splash through the water! Just watching the races is exciting, but you can also place bets on the finish order of the races too (by purchasing a betting ticket).

Something to pay extra attention to is the 1st turn after the race starts. The boat in the best position after this turn tends to have the highest chance of winning, and the racers push their skills to their limits to try to come out ahead here. Be sure to keep an eye on the tight controls and extreme power behind these high-speed boats!

BOAT RACE Amagasaki is about a 3-minute walk from Amagasaki Center Pool-mae Station. You can reach Amagasaki Center Pool-mae Station in about 30 minutes from Kobe-Sannomiya Station, located in the heart of Hyogo Prefecture.
